HEROS Round Westerham Run (17 Miles) |

|
2009 Spring Run:
Sunday March 29th

Peter Amos:
If you had stayed in Orpington this Easter
Sunday you might have wondered what all the fuss
was about! But just a bit further south on the
North Downs the snow was quite thick making
everywhere look clean and bright and the woods
magical. The sub zero temperature did not deter
15 ORR from assembling at the Grasshopper car
park to “beat the bounds” of Westerham for the
twice yearly off-road 17 miler.
Brian and Annie (pictured, right) practised
their skiing technique in the car park and had
they actually had skis would have come in handy
coming down Toys Hill! The going was very soft
underfoot, despite the freezing temperatures.
The semi-frozen puddles looked like porridge but
numbed your feet with the cold. At mile 12 we
turned into the wind and driving snow before
climbing up onto the downs. The Easter bunny had
kindly left crème eggs at mile 14 that gave us
the energy to continue, returning after three
hours of running. A toughie, and one to
remember!
