Date: 24th June. Finishers: 437

Sunday’s overcast and rainy outlook didn’t deter hundreds of participants from local schools and running clubs, and their spectators, from enjoying a morning of multi-terrain road running organised by the Orpington Road Runners and Darrick Wood Parents & Staff Association (PSA).

All participants received medals, and the schoolchildren also received finishing T-shirts. Family and friends were able to enjoy a barbecue and entertainment in the school field, and endured the drizzle to hear the prize-giving shortly after lunch.

Number of entrants:
The Main 10k – 519 people;
2k Junior Race (School Years 3,4,5,6) – 189 people;
2k Senior Race (School Years 7,8,9,10,11) – 86 people;
2k Fun Run – 205 (adults and younger children).

The main race proved increasingly popular and in this, the 10th anniversary year, the entry limit was reached well before the day. Thirteen runners who had competed in at least nine of the previous races! The 10k multi-terrain route started from Darrick Wood Senior School in Lovibonds Avenue and then crossed the A21 into the woodland trails within High Elms Country Park.

The winner, Peter Tucker, from Blackheath and Bromley Harriers completed the course in 33:50, and celebrated this second successive win (he's finished FIRST four times out the last five races!) Blackheath also took the team prize, followed by Beckenham Running Club and Ravens School Runners. Newly-formed Petts Wood Runners also fielded one of the largest club entries in the race.

In the 2k junior race, Georgina Kennedy from Pickhurst came first in 8:18, with the top teams (based on best finishing times of the first three from the same school) coming from Tubbenden, followed by Warren Road and Crofton. The top female teams were from Green Street Green, Marian Vian, and Tubbenden. In the senior race, Ben Greenhalgh from Darrick Wood completed the course in 7:11, with team awards going to Beths Grammar, followed by Ravens School Runners and Darrick Wood. The top female teams were from Darrick Wood and Newstead Wood.

The increased popularity of road running has helped make this event an enduring success!
