Charity Winter 10k Series: 2010 - 11
|

|
Introduction
From
Race Director, John Mackay:
For those of you who have not been fully inducted
into to the joys of winter running with the Club, to
break up the tedium of running through dark, wet,
cold streets, we run a handicap series for a bit
of fun (every year since 1990!!)
It also gives you
the chance to see how training is going because
the run is timed. Instead of going off in
all directions in separate groups, we all follow
the same route, with slower runners going off
first and faster runners held back so that in theory
everyone can finish together.
Any amendments to the official results, please
contact John,
who will consider to make any changes. Good luck!!

The Route

The main route:
leaves from the lamppost,
down to
Green Street Green, [south on Sevenoaks Road]
past the Rose & Crown,
up to Locksbottom
lights, [all the way along the A21, then turn
right, onto Crofton Road]
down to the War Memorial
and back along
Sevenoaks Road.
This is pretty close to a
10k route. To help close up the handicap a
bit, runners who would not expect to finish
in 50 minutes have the extra advantage of cutting
the corners to make it about 5 miles, with timings
adjusted accordingly.
Detailed Results
Race 5: March 2011

Jason Cherriman broke the record for the ORR Handicap course in the 99th race and the last in the current series. In a fantastic run, Jason recorded 33.35 for the 10k route, 4 secs faster than Tom Cherchuck way back in 1991. Jason started on a 13 min handicap to overtake all the 10k runners and looked duly knackered at the end but quickly recovered.
In all there were 56 finishers and a couple who had to pull up. There were some good runs among the early finishers with PBs for Dave Tibbles, Steve Mason, Toby Bates, Suzy Yates, Gavin Kitchingham and Gary Gainsford as well as Jason. Well done to all the 139 runners who took part this year and to the regualr helpers who braved the cold the make it all happen.
Race 4: February 2011

There was a good turnout with 82 recorded finishers with a few more who declined to record their results for some reason. It was good to see Stuart Adams and Joe Molloy return after a gap of a couple of years.
It must of been a good night for running as the first 10 runners home all recorded PBs. Tim Aldred made an improvement of over 3 mins on his PB and Nicola Cotton improved hers for the second month running to be the first woman home. Jason Cheriman made his first appearance of the season and nudged his PB 5 secs closer to Tom Cherchuk's all time record of 33.39.
Well done to all runners and thanks to the usual gang of helpers. We raised £61.21 for our charity, Harris Hospice care.
Race 3: January 2011

There was a good turnout for the January Handicap race and it was good to see some familiar faces back again. As usual for this time of year there were many excuses and pleas for a special handicap due to injury, lack of running or having just completed a marathon, or longer, at the weekend. Together with some unknown form, this made handicapping more difficult than usual and this is reflected in the results.
In all over 30 runners beat the mean time of 50 mins with some impressive times in both 10k and 5 mile in what was a good night for running.
Race 2: December 2010

Despite below freezing temperatures and the the recent snowy weather
that has restricted running for many people, an encouraging 51 completed
the latest in the Handicap series.
Great enthusiasm was demonstrated by a number of people asking for a
higher handicap and particularly from Karen Samuel who arrived late
and gamely chased the pack some eight minutes after her usual start
position. It was good to see a guest appearance from Lauren Webb
exactly 11 years to the day since she last took part in the
Handicap.
Dan Richter significantly improved on last months time to finish
first in 43.59 for the 5m route. Rob Cogan followed him in in a net
time of 43.20 for the 10k first place. Gavin Kitchingham was again
fastest on the night despite a freezing 13 minute wait to start.
